Are you ready for the journey?
The (Zoom) workshop process is designed to train participants at all levels of your organization to engage in learning and action around issues of race and racism.
While the initial training will build capacity at a micro level, the intent is to create a cadre of leaders to institutionalize a foundation of racial equity & social justice throughout the organization, its constituents, and the community.
Drawing strength from the participants to build trust and respect, and to break down barriers through the commitment to engage in this work, we will use tools and methods tailored that challenge old ways of being and doing, and cultivate an environment of inclusion, engagement, leadership, and relationship development. This process will guide you toward a "Racial Equity Framework" that will inform your practices, policies, and serve as the resource for anti-racism organizational change.
We recognize that there are many intersecting oppressions and will touch on our social identities and how they impact us within power positions, which will connect all oppressions, with a focus on race and the injustices that stem from racialized history and belief systems that are reflected in culture/ institutional culture.
Our approach to the work is to develop the concept of anti-racism based in theory and practice to action. It is an active and consistent process of change. We will examine the imposition of individual, institutional & cultural ideology that leads to systemic racism.
As an organizing collective, we teach how racism/racist ideology was present even before the formation of the United States and how it continues to operate today. We provides a basis for taking action. Various training and development models are used to provide insight, structure, and relevance that enables participants to identify and understand defined implications around varying perceptions that may exist in the organization and/or community.
The methods will:
• be grounded in a conceptual analysis of racial and ethnic oppression using history as the foundation of creating a framework for understanding race & racism and racialized outcomes.
• be rooted in understanding issues of oppression and how racism manifest within individuals personal/institutional oppression
• use a "Disinvestment" and “Gatekeeper” model to understand the power (given by institutions) participants have over oppressed groups & communities.
• providing language, definitions & conceptual framework for understanding of the mutually beneficial relationship that exist between colonialism, capitalism and racism to create and maintain the racial hierarchy.
• support the need to acquire data and use it as a means to move from individual to institutional understanding of racial & social inequities
Due to covid, this workshop will be on the zoom platform
To participate it is required that you attend the entire two full days and use the audio and video throughout the entire workshop.

Undoing Racism® Workshops
“Undoing Racism®”
We invite you to be part of our movement to advance institutional change for racial equity. Workshop participants will engage in a comprehensive exploration of how racism shapes American institutions, often without our conscious understanding that it is doing so. Applicants should be individuals in positions to take knowledge gained in the workshop back to their communities, colleagues, and institutions. The goal is to foster local work groups that will continue the conversation and work toward institutional change.
A Workshop by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond
A national multiracial network of antiracist organizers and educators dedicated to building a movement for justice by ending racism and other forms of institutional oppression. The People’s Institute Undoing Racism Workshop is an intensive 2 ½ day workshop designed to educate, challenge and empower people to “undo” the racist structures that hinder effective social change. Their analysis moves beyond a focus on the symptoms of racism to an understanding of what it is, where it comes from, how it functions, why it persists and how it can be undone.
