February 2025 Undoing Racism Workshop

Undoing Racism®/Community Organizing is the signature workshop facilitated by trainers from the People’s Institute of Survival and Beyond. Participants will experience a humanistic process for laying a foundation to explore how we have been racialized, socialized, and conditioned to think about race and racism.

Why Should YOU Attend the Undoing Racism Workshop?

The PISAB Undoing Racism Workshop developed by the People's Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB), is distinct from many traditional diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings in several key ways:

  • Focus on Systemic Change Over Individual Behavior
  • Anti-Racism Framework, Not Just DEI
  • Community-Centered Approach
  • Explicit Challenge to “Colorblindness” and Charity Models
  • Action-Oriented Focus
  • Grounded in History and Accountability
  • Intensive, Transformative Process

This emphasis on structural change, historical accountability, and community-centered action makes PISAB’s workshop unique among DEI initiatives, as it seeks to inspire participants to not only understand racism but actively work to dismantle it.

What Do Past Workshop Attendees Have to Say?

"As an African-American woman, this workshop changed my life. This is not another 'Diversity' workshop. It will challenge everything you think you know about race and racism. This workshop explores the myths, realities, and history of racism in America and how it affects ALL of us."

Ruby Maddox, Founder, Gardening the Community and Leaders of the Free World, Director of LEEP Projects, Clark University

“The Undoing Racism workshop is completely different than anything I have been involved in the past eight years; it is powerful, it is enlightening, and it is a whole new approach to ‘leveling the playing field.’”

Bill David, Jacksonville Diversity Network Board of Directors, Jacksonville, FL

“The Undoing Racism workshop taught me the difference between prejudice and racism, and how institutional racism has affected me as an African American woman in this country. The presenters were knowledgeable and very candid in their approach which really helped us open up on a topic that can get quite raw when discussed.  Attending the workshop helped me to be more conscious of issues of race; I feel that I’m less reactive because I understand the dynamics of the issue better.  Overall, I feel that the workshop added to my personal growth as an individual – and the food was fantastic!”

Debbie Tynes, Holyoke Community College, Academic Advisor and Springfield Public Schools parent
