Q: Why are you interested in participating in the Undoing Racism workshop?
A: I have done lots of learning about racism and my relationship to it as a white person – in classes in school, in workshops, in white affinity spaces, and in books. I’ve never done an immersive 2-day workshop with a formal anti-racism education group, though, as so haven’t had the opportunity to do role plays or feel what it’s like to be in that kind of space. As I mentioned earlier, I’m also really interested specifically in institutional gatekeeping, and fortifying my embodied understanding of how I may play out racial enactments in my workplace as the studio manager of a yoga studio. There’s a growing intention to start doing this work as a yoga community, and it has to start embodied in the people with power (like me).
